The Heart of Sungate
Our neighbor and friend, Charles Burkhard passed away on March 15 at the age of 77. He leaves behind his wife, Carol; and his two children Brian and Carrie; and countless friends and family who adored him.
Charles, known as Charlie to many of his friends, enjoyed the simple things in life, like watching football, tinkering in the garage, and doing yard work. And he especially looked forward to time spent with his neighbors.
Charles stayed active in his retirement, and continued helping others and his community. He found happiness in lending a hand to all his neighbors and friends. Recently, Charles volunteered for two Sungate newsletter delivery routes to make sure his neighbors received the neighborhood news.
Palmer and Patricia Gray remember how active Charles and Carol have been in the Sungate Water Aerobics and Adult Swim Programs. “They were charter members when we began 19 years ago. Charles was always willing to participant in all the exercises, even the twist and ballet moves. He was a fun and congenial part of the group.”
“Charles did so much actual physical work to keep Sungate common grounds well-kept and made us all proud of our neighborhood. He was great asset to Sungate, and he will be greatly missed in our neighborhood by all of us who knew him.”
