Pool Project Updates

If you have driven pass the pool in the last few months, you most certainly noticed workers, materials and debris on site. There has been two major projects this off season. We are so excited that we were able to make these big investments into our pool.

The board considers the pool a valuable asset, allowing us to offset the expenses of the association with proceeds from the pool. The old flat roof over the office area was leaking and was past due for repair. The board has wanted to add a roof over the expanded patio area to the south of the concession since that work was done a few years ago.

The roof project began in October of 2022. If you attended the Pumpkin Plunge, you may have seen the initial framework. A new roof structure was built over the existing flat roof of the pool office, and extending over the patio area. Old shingles were removed from roof got brand new shingles. New roof,

The covered patio area will be perfect for pool parties and will provide a much needed shady area for eating or gathering on those hot summer days. The pool area needed a lot of attention. This is the largest project we’ve undertaken in roughly 25 years. The much needed work will keep Sungate Pool in good operating condition for years to come.

It became evident that it was time to replaster both pools. You may have noticed that the bottom of the pool had gotten rough the last couple of years.

Several pool tiles had to be replaced last couple years, with more cracking and becoming dislodged at the end of the last season.

The concrete coping was also damaged and in poor condition. Pool coping is the cap around the edge of the pool and protects the pool shell from getting water and debris behind it. It made sense to replace the coping and tile before replastering and it was more cost efficient to do these projects together. Work should be wrapped up by April.

Plan to join us for the Pool Open House to get a look at the improvements.
