Letter from Sungate President
We will have the annual meeting of Sungate Members on November 15 and all residents are encouraged to attend. It rarely lasts more than an hour, and we will discuss several topics that may be of interest to you:
1. We are thinking about changing the fee schedule for the pool and also for Sungate dues.
2. We are trying to decide what to do about the entrance island at 55th Street; in particular removing the Bradford pear trees has been a topic.
3. We are still interested in getting started with replacing the boundary wall around Sungate. We need some help raising funds for this project. If you have those kinds of skills and are interested in serving your neighbors, please come to the meeting.
4. And, of course, we are working with lots of ideas about the improvements to the pool for next several years.
The Sungate Neighbors, Inc. board is made up of hardworking, talented leaders who strive to create a fun and positive experience while working towards progress and to build our neighborhood and our main our greatest asset, the pool. If you want to be a part of the conversation, share your areas, get to know your neighbors, there are ways to get involved. There is an open board position; we encourage you to join us for our monthly meetings to learn more about serving.
Sungate residents haven’t seen an increase in fees in quite a while. As the cost of services and products continue to rise, SNI is not immune to the struggles of today’s economy. We want your feedback.
The 2016 pool season is but as we prepare for 2017, we are planning on making additional capital improvements, which include, replacing the old slides and adding new shade structures, along with other small items to continue to improve gate and concession operations.
Sungate Neighbors, Inc. maintains the park, entrances, lawn around the pool, and the grass next to the boundary wall.
A lot of thought and planning goes into decisions for the care of these areas. We want your input, ideas, suggestions about how to manage and maintain some of the garden areas throughout the neighborhood, particularly the median at 55th and Sheridan. We want feedback about new entrance signage, plants, trees and other possibilities for those areas.
Each year, we continue to have to make repairs to the dilapidated wall around our neighborhood. SNI board wants to ensure that the wall can be replaced at some point in the future. To that end, we’ve applied for city beautification grants before and it wasn’t the right time, but with the possibility of matching funds becoming available in the next few years, the board would like to begin a fundraising campaign. Securing internal funds helps show we are ready for the challenge. But first we need a dedicated individual to take the lead.
Just so you know, anyone can attend the annual meeting, however only those who have paid the $78 annual dues will be allowed to vote.
